On Monday, February 29th 2016 a team of Spanish investors and entrepreneurs, active in the field of agriculture and food processing, expressed their willingness in olive tree plantation and production of olive oil in Isfahan.

In the meeting with the Spanish investors Gasemali Jabbari, the head of Investment Commission of Isfahan Chamber, said: “Isfahan, as the biggest producer of agricultural and industrial products in Iran, has a good potential for developing international relations with foreign investors”. He added; “The Chamber in coordination with the Center for Investment Services of the province is ready to table investment opportunities in different fields specifically in agriculture”.
Juan Luis Onieva, Director General to Mediteranean Co. declared his readiness to invest on the production and processing of olive fruit and oil seeds in Isfahan.  He said; “We will initiate our business with importing edible olive oil to Isfahan and as the following phase we would look into locating a trade partner to produce oil locally for the region market”.  He mentioned that the geographical location of Iran in comparison with other Middle East and the Gulf Region countries provides a perfect platform for business activities in the entire region”
Alireza Nikouei, scientific board member of agricultural and natural resources research Centre in Isfahan province, affirming Mr. Onieva’s attitude on the region’s geographical advantage, said; “Other advantages of investment in production and processing of olive in this region are the increasing local consumption of olive oil and substituting the product with higher water consuming plants. He further added; “With respect to the increase in using olive fruit and olive oil in Iran and its substitution with other edible oils in the market and regarding the fact that Iran is experiencing years of drought and water scarcity in Isfahan, olive has a relative advantage to the local and international investors to look into the issue. In this regard Mr. Onieva added that yields of olive trees reaching low amount of water, are the best for producing high quality olive oil.
In the end the Spanish team signed a MoU with Golbahar Sepahan Corporation to set up a joint plant with the local partner to produce olive oil under the supervision and license of Mediteranean Co.
